Here are some low-cost homemade mosquito repellent recipes you can try:
- Essential Oil Mosquito Repellent: You’ll need half a cup of distilled water, half a cup of witch hazel, rubbing alcohol, or vinegar, and 30 to 40 drops of essential oil of your choice1. Combine essential oils to create a custom scent1. Pour the ingredients into a spray bottle. Shake to combine and spray as needed1.
- Mouthwash and Beer Mosquito Repellent: This recipe requires one 16-ounce bottle of mint-flavored mouthwash, 3 cups of Epsom salt, and three 12-ounce bottles of stale beer2. Place all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix them together with a spoon until the Epsom salt has dissolved completely2. Use a funnel to pour the mixture into a spray bottle2.
- Apple Cider Vinegar Mosquito Repellent: For this repellent, you’ll need 2 ounces of water, 2 ounces of apple cider vinegar, and 20-25 drops of Bug Off Oil (an all-natural oil made with a mix of citronella, peppermint, lemongrass, cedarwood, and geranium)2. Mix all of the ingredients together and pour the mixture into a spray bottle2.
Remember to exercise caution when using these repellents. Some essential oils used in these repellents can be harmful to pets and children, so it’s vital to keep them out of reach3. Frequent reapplication may be necessary3.
